I'm struggling to find any discussion of performance issues in Raw Data and I can't find any 'official' channels for discussion (the Steam Community seems to be deserted and I cannot see a subreddit for it either), so I'm going to just throw this one out here.I'm running a GeForce 980Ti GPU and an i7-4820K CPU. I've got the latest nVidia drivers, and this game runs like hogshit. I'd refund it and chalk it up to another poorly optimised Early Access release, but bafflingly it seems like it works fine for most people.I've had a few issues with stuttering in Unity games before - especially bad with Hover Junkers which didn't seem to like my CPU much, but a spot overclocking seems to have resolved that and everything runs buttery-smooth. PoolNation VR can be a little stuttery in multiplayer, but that's about it.Nothing I have plays as bad as Raw Data.
Whether I play on high settings or the absolute lowest, it's fading in and out of the SteamVR overlay every few seconds, the textures always come up as blurry garbage and the whole thing is basically nauseatingly unplayable.Has anyone else had issues with a similar configuration, and have you found any ways around it?. Ya so I did some tests.
I turned on the Perf Heuristic Active in the performance tab of steam vr. Then I clicked 'notify in headset. This will show you framerate drops in game and on the desktop in the steam vr settings pane.I then pulled up Raw Data to see how it does.
My findings are that I'm dropping frames about once per second no matter what my settings are. If I change them to Epic it is literally the same smoothness as if I choose low. This frame dropping happens before I even start a real game. I actually haven't played a real match yet. I've only spent time in the 'lobby' area of the game trying to choose settings that won't cause frame drops every second.I'm not having similar issues in any other game. I'm going to keep digging and see if I can find a way to resolve this by doing things like reinstalling my drivers etc. Same specs here. I spent quite a while tinkering with the graphics options last night trying to make the game look good (while being playable) and haven't settled on anything yet.
I will say though, anything 1.3 or above in the ingame SS causes instant reprojection for me as soon as the slightest bit of action picks up (I don't have steamVR SS turned on). So that seemed the single largest variable for me for performance. I played a round at 1.2 and it seemed fine with most of the other settings set to high. 1.1 with most of the settings at epic also worked fine. I'm almost starting to wonder if UE4 might have some hyperthreading issues. I haven't tried disabling HT yet but I have to say ever since my upgrade to an i7 6700k I've had nothing but issues with every single UE4 game. I was blaming my 290x but after upgrading to a Fury X it only got worse - I'm thinking UE4 might be poorly optimized for threading/compute to favor Nvidia hardware but hyperthreading became an issue in the process.
Worth a shot disabling it. As it almost seems like the people with lower end hardware are having a better experience. I have a 4k screen but it's running at 1080p resolution (tv and computer both say this). And but the stupid window is still huge and off the screen.Furthermore, If I run it even at the 2.0 multiplier it looks like crap (well, not a completely unreadable alias-fest like 1.0 looks but if I got into the lab for example, it looks about 10 times better than this game).
If it looked good and performance sucked then I'd maybe think okay I just can't run it, but it doesn't even look good at 2.0 really. Looks like shit.Let's just say I couldn't tell what was going on in the intro of the game when that first happened. I've never seen anything that bad.I've tried updating drivers and the game iteself and it's even worse than before.980ti + i5 6700K.
